  17. Introduction
  18. ~~~~~~~~~~~~
  19. ImageDesk is a program to catalog picture directories by generating small
  20. representants of the pictures, so called thumbnails. Those thumbnails are
  21. internally being expanded to objects which will include all essential
  22. attributes of the represented pictures. Several thumbnail objects which
  23. corresponding pictures are in the same directory, could be saved together
  24. into a catalog file for being available immediately on request. These files
  25. could be saved packed, too provided XPK has been installed. The following
  26. picture formats are currently supported and will be recognized
  27. automatically:

  33. @item PCX (1 bit upto 32 bit)
  34. @item BMP (4,8 and 24 bit, OS/2 and Windows formats, unpacked only)
  35. @item PCD (upto BASE size)
  36. @item PNM (P4, P5 und P6)
  37. @item TARGA

  40. The corresponding picture of a thumbnail object could be shown if
  41. requested. Therefore two internal viewers, the window- and the screen
  42. viewer, exists for each above mentioned format. The latter are able to view
  43. Images on @emph{CyberGraphics-}, @emph{Picasso-} or standard 8 bit screens,
  44. but it is also possible to specify external viewers or AREXX programs which
  45. ImageDesk will call on demand.
